I am Molly. Before I came to New Zealand, I have worked in the Student Council in the President position for 2 years in my university, ultimately gaining experience at a variety of different things.
I am always striving to bring 100% to the work that I do, and my goal is to drive the Unitec Student Council forward by finding the best and brightest way.
I am a huge people-person and there is nothing greater than finding an opportunity for people to do awesome things, and it is a fantastic process that I feel lucky to participate in.
Aureo (Rio) MONIZ CARDOSO
Kia ora everyone, my name is Aureo Moniz Cardoso and I prefer to be called “Rio”. I am an International student from Timor-Leste or East Timor. I am nominating myself for the International Student Representative for the next 2018 Unitec Student Council.
One of the main reasons why I want to run the International Student Representative is to support my colleagues from different parts of the world who are studying at Unitec. I want to be there for those in need and ensure that their voice is heard. I also want to make sure that every International student is safe from any kind of abuse or threat and their rights are being met. If I got elected, I will commit myself greatly to work with every student’s support team in order to provide the services that are needed by the students.
My major goal from joining this student council is to learn. I want to discover how to work practically and administratively in a foreign country such as New Zealand. I want to learn from my colleagues or co-workers who have different knowledge, skills and experiences. I also want to explore and understand how to work with people who have different cultural background.
My name is Manoj Padmanaban and I am doing Postgraduate Diploma in Computing at Mount Albert Campus. I came to New Zealand last February 2017 and started my college life from there. I have recently completed my first semester in Computing.
I’m an international student and I am pleased to represent the people who came from different cultural and traditional background around the world. I can understand and relate the challenges faced by every international student in terms of Education, Insurance and Jobs. The biggest challenge that students facing here is finding the right person at the right time. As a student representative, I’m committed to helping the student to achieve their respective goals. I will be available all the time for the students who are in need of help and whoever is facing challenges to get the right information. Furthermore, I will try to get more details about the job opportunities and the visa formalities to help the students to secure a safe journey.
As an international representative, I would like to act as a bridge connecting the people from different backgrounds together and helping them to achieve their goals by guiding them in the right direction.
Hello, friends. My name is Akula Sharma and I am an International Student in the Mount Albert campus. Considering the struggles I have faced, which are not only mine but of all international students: culture shock, a new environment to adapt in or understanding the English language used in New Zealand academia. I discovered these issues have no medium to communicate further and students are afraid of talking to the authorities about themselves. Hence, I have decided to run for International representative. With my role, as a Representative in the Student Council, I can help my fellow students to become more comfortable and confident in bringing forth their problems. I make sure they know about various opportunities Unitec provides, about the international scholarships, on-campus academic tutoring, and internship opportunities. I will encourage them to grab as much exposure as they can in their chosen industries. If I will be an international Representative I will work across their language barriers and find out solutions instead of delaying them, I will take serious responsibility for the post I have on the student council. My main motive is to encourage our multi-diverse institution, to unite as one and celebrate all the cultures with pride. #VoteForAkula
