Rebecca Seay

Second Year Diploma in Veterinary Nursing
Unitec Mt Albert Campus

What inspired you to take this course and career path?
After many years in a variety of jobs that didn’t suit me, I decided to finally pursue my dream job and enrol with Unitec on the Veterinary Nursing program.

Why did you decide to become a Student Rep?
My classmates are very supportive and although this is out of my comfort zone, I decided to support them in turn.

What changes do you hope to achieve as a Rep this semester?
I hope to connect the veterinary nurses with the wider Unitec community and ensure that my class is happy and succeeding throughout the year.

If you have to bake or cook for others, what is your ‘signature dish?’
When I cook for others my ‘go to’ dish is spaghetti. It was the first dish my Grandad taught me how to make when I was very little and it is delicious.

Where is your hometown and what is the best thing about it?
I am from London in England but have lived in New Zealand for the last ten years. The best thing about London and England, in general, is the amount of history. I love to explore the castles, cathedrals and other sites built hundreds of years ago but still standing strong.

If you could travel anywhere, where would it be?
I would travel back home to England; I have not been back in 10 years. Although there are a thousand places I would love to see all over the world.

What is the book or movie that has influenced you the most and why?
It sounds childish, but my favourite book is “Charlotte’s Web”. Seeing things from an animal’s perspective and how they love unconditionally and yet understand more than we could ever know.

What was your first job?
My first job (in NZ at least) was as a PA/Receptionist with an executive recruitment company in Auckland.

Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?
I see myself working as a Veterinary Nurse in 5 years time, wherever my husband’s career happens to take us.
